AMIA corporate roundtables are hosted by AMIA partners looking to engage with AMIA leaders and informatics subject matter experts. Participation in corporate roundtables is voluntary and based on your interest in the topic and availability. The small focus groups are unique Annual Symposium sessions for attendees to learn about the latest industry innovations, share user experience, provide critical feedback on current programs and most importantly, inform future industry program and product development. Attendees will learn what important biomedical and health informatics issues these companies are exploring.

How Can We Make Clinicians Delighted with CDS?

Description: Although the use of clinical decision support (CDS) tools have helped to reduce medication errors and improve patient outcomes, they have fallen short of their full potential. Consequently, clinician acceptance and satisfaction with CDS remains substandard. The appropriate use of these tools – including the reduction of "alert fatigue" – remains a focus for many healthcare organizations.

Dr. Donald Levick will lead our roundtable where he will share his focus as a health system CMIO on not only patient safety and quality improvement but on clinician satisfaction with the EHR. Dr. Levick – who is the co-author of the HIMSS 2012 Book of the Year: "Improving Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support" – will share how his ongoing interest in effective CDS fueled successful implementations of pharmacogenomics and other targeted medication warning CDS.

Description:By 2025, between 100 million and 2 billion human genomes will have been sequenced. This remarkable progress in genomics discovery has given us insights into complex human traits and disease and opens the door to a new era in medical treatments. But clinicians need to be able to access this wealth of data and understand how to interpret and act upon it.
