Special Message from the AMIA President and Board Chair

Dear AMIA Members,

It is hard to believe we are just a few weeks out from our first live AMIA meeting since 2019. We hope to see many of you at the AMIA 2021 Annual Symposium in San Diego.

We continue to carefully monitor updates on new cases and the corresponding science, along with following all national, state, and local guidance. AMIA leadership is committed to a safe meeting by adhering to our formal list of public health conference policies in place along with the safety measures of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

We understand the pandemic continues to impact the ability of some presenters to travel to the conference, and AMIA is committed to delivering the Annual Symposium while also providing flexibility to presenters with accepted programmatic content.

With this in mind, we are expanding our virtual footprint of the AMIA 2021 Annual Symposium with a special Virtual Day held Tuesday, October 26, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. EDT through our virtual platform. Virtual Day is designed for presenters facing restrictions on their ability to attend the conference in person and is also an additional opportunity for attendees to participate in the Annual Symposium, especially if they are facing the same restrictions.

The Virtual Day program is sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and consists of a plenary session, four panels, more than 30 oral presentations and more than 40 posters.

In addition, we are collecting the AMIA 2021 Annual Symposium presentations in a pre-recorded format to compile a robust digital collection similar to the AMIA 2020 Virtual Annual Symposium. During the meeting, we are providing a Live Stream Track from San Diego with both the opening and closing keynotes and a selection of 11 sessions curated by the Scientific Program Committee.

All those who are currently registered for the live meeting in San Diego will have full access to Virtual Day as well as the full digital collection.

For those who cannot attend the meeting in person, we recommend you register for the Virtual Bundle which includes Virtual Day, the Live Stream Track, and the full digital collection for the most complete virtual offering of the AMIA 2021 Annual Symposium. If you have already registered for the Live Stream Track, you can upgrade to the Virtual Bundle.

We are proud of the efforts we have made to keep the scientific program robust and innovative. While we will miss those of you who cannot attend in San Diego, we hope this virtual footprint will make you feel as if you are with us!

We look forward to seeing you in San Diego or through your screens.
