A New Health Informatics Certification

AMIA is the professional home for leaders in health informatics. AMIA’s digital education initiative has offered online and virtual education for more than a decade.

The Health Informatics Certification Commission launched the AMIA Health Informatics Certification (AHIC) exam in 2021 to recognize excellence through a new AMIA Certified Health Informatics Professional (ACHIP) designation.

The ACHIP designation is for the full spectrum of health informatics professionals, including clinicians – physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, dieticians; public health professionals; data scientists and analysts; researchers; and health informaticians in other spheres.

Prepare with the AHIC Review Course

The AHIC Review Course (ARC) helps health informatics (HI) professionals prepare to sit for the AMIA Health Informatics Certification (AHIC) exam. AMIA selected experienced member informaticians as AHIC Review Course curriculum consultant, unit leaders, and more than 30 course instructor subject matter experts to create content based on Health Informatics Delineation of Practice (Gadd et al, 2020).

The AHIC Review Course is a sustained study program of more than 40 hours of AMIA Health Informatics Essentials education modules. Through 119 brief lectures with 100s of hyperlinked references and resources and several quizzes per unit, the AHIC Review Course will help learners become familiar with the content and types of questions on the AHIC examination.

The goal of the AHIC Review Course is to help learners identify gaps in their knowledge that require additional self-study and to think about how they could be tested on the application of knowledge. Through an online forum, the AHIC Review Course will also provide opportunities for learners to interact with each other and instructors.
