Overview: As the healthcare industry integrates artificial intelligence at an unprecedented pace, the AMIA 2026 Special Panel will convene prominent physician technology leaders to explore the shift from relatively simple AI tools to autonomous AI agents. This session will extend beyond technical descriptions of agentic AI at the point-of-care to examine critical policy-practice dynamics, ethical tensions, and trade-offs inherent in "Human-in-theLoop" (HITL) versus autonomous clinical uses of AI.

Healthcare AI: Congressional Panel

Overview: AMIA is convening key Congressional staffers to discuss policy issues surrounding the proliferation and integration of artificial intelligence tools into clinical decision-making including the proper role of government regulation in this evolving area. Panelists will also be asked to react to AMIA’s proposed policies, which will be shared in advance.
