Learning health system (LHS) aims to leverage technology, data analytics, and evidence-based practices to create a feedback loop that continuously informs healthcare delivery, policy, and practice. It requires a multidisciplinary approach to interpret patterns observed in real-world data with the associated context. “A good structure increases the likelihood of good process, and good process increases the likelihood of good outcomes”. [Donabedian] I propose three guiding principles for translational AI to accelerate the adoption of technology innovations in healthcare and illustrate those principles through our research at two academic medical centers.
