I'm delighted to share a few reflections from our 2025 Annual Symposium in Atlanta.

Whether this was your first time joining us or you've been part of our community for years, your participation and energy made this event an outstanding success. At its heart, AMIA is a member-driven organization, and it is your passion, expertise, and dedication that advance the field of informatics forward and shape the future of health and healthcare. For those who couldn't attend, you were missed. We look forward to welcoming you at future gatherings.

A Growing, Vibrant Community

This year, AMIA reached a record 6,416 members—an incredible milestone that reflects the strength and reach of our collective voice. Our community is more diverse, dynamic, and accessible than ever, supported by new digital, organizational, and group membership pathways.

If you haven't already, now is the perfect time to log in and renew your AMIA membership for 2026. Renewing ensures you stay connected to our community and continue to access the latest informatics research, education, and resources throughout the coming year.

Innovation, Education, Fellowship, and Appreciation

This year's Symposium theme — Modernizing Informatics Across the Spectrum: Research, Clinical, and Public Health Systems — came to life through rich sessions spanning artificial intelligence, public health informatics, clinical decision support, and more.

AMIA thrives because of the dedication of its volunteers, whose contributions were essential to the success of this year's meeting. I am deeply grateful to every presenter and attendee, and especially to the Scientific Program Committee (SPC) for curating such an impactful program. My sincere thanks to Dr. Brian Dixon, PhD, MPA, FACMI, FAMIA, FHIMSS, MACE, Chair of the SPC, and to the full committee for their leadership and vision. A complete list of SPC members can be found in our recap materials and closing session slides. I encourage you to join me in recognizing their service and their contributions to our field.

Recognition and Celebration

Always a highlight at the Annual Symposium, it was a privilege to honor the remarkable achievements of our members across the informatics community. This year, we celebrated excellence across the spectrum of informatics.

We recognized the induction of 24 new Fellows and five Distinguished Fellows to the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) and celebrated the diverse and distinguished achievements of colleagues through AMIA's Morris F. Collen Award of Excellence, Signature Awards, Leadership Awards, and numerous other recognitions. I encourage you to explore these pages to learn more about the inspiring individuals and teams who are shaping the future of our field.

AMIA's View Toward the Future

In our State of the Association presentation, we highlighted how AMIA has emerged stronger after navigating the challenges of 2025. Thanks to sustained revenue growth and a surplus, we are well-positioned to make strategic investments in education, member benefits, and organizational development as we move into 2026.

Looking ahead, our new strategic plan for 2026–2028, which will launch in early 2026, will serve as a roadmap for modernization, expansion, and fostering a culture of growth. Stay tuned for more details on this plan in early 2026, including the launch of the AMIA Now platform, where you'll be able to discover and complete informatics learning through a Netflix-like recommendation engine. We also look forward to launching improvements to our digital platforms, as well as other educational and career development offerings.

Don't forget, as a full AMIA member, you have access to watch the State of the Association presentation as well as the Annual Symposium Welcome Plenary and Closing Plenary anytime at AMIA.org.

A Final Word

Looking ahead, I encourage you to look ahead to our 2026 events: Amplify Informatics in Denver (May 18–21, registration now open), which will unite the AMIA Summits and the AMIA Clinical Informatics Conference, and the Annual Symposium in Dallas (November 7–11). These meetings are invaluable moments to reconnect as a community, learn from one another, and shape where our field is headed. Your presence truly matters.

Atlanta offered a week full of insight, innovation, and community. In this season of gratitude, I'm deeply thankful for the conversations, presentations, and shared moments — including the dance party — that made this meeting so memorable. It is a privilege to serve alongside you as we continue building and advancing health informatics together.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Genevieve Melton-Meaux, MD, PhD, FACMI
