Carl Johnson, MD, EdM, MSc

Carl received his BS in chemistry from The Ohio State University, MD from The Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai, EdM from The Harvard Graduate School of Education, and MSc (Clinical Research) from Mount Sinai/ New York University. Carl completed his pediatrics residency and fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Children's Hospital Boston. He completed a fellowship in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School. Carl has held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School, The University of California, San Francisco, The Ohio State University, and The Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai in pediatrics focused on medical education and health services research in pediatric asthma. Carl worked in the HCIT industry for over a decade (Cerner and Optum) and is now a Principal Scientist in Outcomes Research in the Center of Observational and Real World Evidence (CORE) at Merck where he focuses on digital health data policy and real world evidence generation. Carl served on the AMIA DEI Task Force (2021-2022) and has been a member of the AMIA Public Policy Committee since 2019. He chairs the AMIA Public Policy Committee (2023-2025). Carl lives in eastern Pennsylvania and enjoys tennis, Ohio State football (O-H-....!), most things French, tea, cooking, mixing cocktails, music, and history.
