Curriculum Consultant

The ARC Curriculum Consultant provided leadership and oversight for the entire course. Dr. Hardy scaffolded the AHIC Review Course by guiding Unit Leaders in the creation of the curriculum map, which connected the Health Informatics Delineation of Practice domains and knowledge statements to the lectures’ organization by unit and module. The Curriculum Consultant then worked together with Unit Leaders, Course Instructors, and AMIA staff to review each lecture at each step in the content development process. This iterative process ensured that learners will access lectures achieving their specific learning objectives in succinct, evidence-based narrated presentations, each accompanied by a downloadable script with hyperlinked references and resources.

Unit Leaders

AMIA chose the AHIC Review Course’s Unit Leaders using a rigorous selection process to ensure that the country’s most expert health informaticians oversaw content development associated with each domain. Unit Leaders met with course instructors and worked in a shared virtual space first to outline each lecture, then to develop content in both slide and transcript formats. These professional conversations via phone, videoconference, and text track changes and comments resulted in 119 thoroughly reviewed, relevant lectures professionally presented – by health informaticians, for health informaticians. Unit Leaders will continue to be involved with the course to ensure that it is updated, to serve as online forum moderators, and to participate in webinar “Study Sessions.”

AMIA Education Committee Chair

The AMIA Education Committee Chair provided subject matter expertise and leadership for this entire course. Dr. Khairat led the development and refinement of the selection rubric for Unit Leaders and Course Instructors and mapped instructor expertise to course modules. Dr. Khairat, along with AMIA staff, ensured that the course encompassed key informatics subdisciplines and that the course instructors represented diversity among AMIA members. The Education Committee Chair worked closely with the Curriculum Consultant, Unit Leaders, Course Instructors, and AMIA staff via synchronous and asynchronous collaborations to ensure quality and timeliness of all aspects of the course. Dr. Khairat continues to support ARC’s iterative course refinement efforts to ensure that it meets the needs and expectations of the health informatics community.

Course Instructors

Out of 100 applicants, AMIA selected 26 Course Instructors as the Subject Matter Experts who worked with AMIA staff, Unit Leaders, the Curriculum Consultant, and a team of proofreaders to create the presentations and transcripts comprising the 119 ARC lectures.

Course Instructors had a mission to create lectures that achieved their learning objectives, were supported by peer-reviewed references, included a “Knowledge Check” question, and could be delivered in a focused lecture of 10 to 20 minutes. ARC Course Instructors then recorded their lectures and created practice test questions – all in service to creating a review course that would be relevant and essential to the health informatics professional either wanting a general review course, or preparing to sit for the AMIA Health Informatics Certification exam.
