Lyn Hardy, PhD, RN

Lynda Hardy PhD, RN, FAAN, currently a Program Officer at the NIH National Library of Medicine has experience in data science and informatics, has been an Associate Professor of Clinical Practice at The Ohio State University College of Nursing and Affiliate Faculty in the Translational Data and Analytics Institute. Her previous work at the NIH focused on health and wellness, women and children's health, global and environmental health, and infectious diseases, notably HIV/AIDS. She was a member of the founding Steering Committee of the NIH Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) initiative that focused on data standardization and sharing. Dr. Hardy further worked, within nursing, to develop a data and informatics plan to begin the consideration of common data elements in nursing while representing her Institute at the NIH Fogarty International Center focusing on national and international healthcare problems through trending and data analysis. As the Director of Data Science and Discovery at the Ohio State University, Dr. Hardy worked toward a national and international approach to data use and sharing focusing on algorithmic fairness in patient-care decision-making. Dr. Hardy has devoted her career to understanding and working toward patient health and safety through data science, focusing on social determinants of health and the underserved, and national and international health issues. Dr. Hardy has placed extended efforts on a multidisciplinary approach to education and implementation of informatics and data science to actively inform methods of improving access to comprehensive, quality, and cost-effective health care services and achieve health equity for all Americans. Her interests further lie in the use of health informatics and data science to determine the impact of the environment of healthcare, especially for vulnerable populations.
