Mentoring at the 2026 Annual Symposium

The AMIA 2026 Annual Symposium offers several events dedicated to connecting mentees, mentors, and professional communities in informatics. Designed for individuals at all career stages—including students, early professionals, and senior leaders—the mentoring events foster career development, networking, and inclusive dialogue across the informatics field.

E2R Mentoring Circles: Connect & Cultivate

Monday, November 9 | 7:00 - 8:30 pm [this is a proposed new time awaiting NB confirmation]
Open to mentees from diverse perspectives and all career stages.

The AMIA Empowerment, Engagement, and Representation (E2R) Subcommittee on Retention and Advancement is hosting its 5th career mentoring event, now called Mentoring Circles: Connect & Cultivate.

We have a new name, but the same goal, to provide an inclusive mentoring experience that cultivates timely discussion topics and connects individuals in career mentoring conversations within a small group setting. Mentoring Circles will begin with a networking activity followed by group conversations. Each mentee selects two topics of interest and rotates to each of those circles.

Discussion topic examples include, but are not limited to

  • Voices at the Table — Elevating diverse perspectives in data and leadership
  • Beyond Academia — Exploring industry, policy, and nonprofit roles
  • Leveling Up — Redefining success in the journey from early- to mid-career
  • Pathways for Women+ — Thriving and leading in health informatics

The E2R event is generously sponsored by Merck & Co., Inc. [LOGO ON PAGE]

Each circle is composed of one to two mentor(s) and six mentees at a table.

While we’ll have some discussion questions prepared, this is also a unique opportunity to meet others with similar interests and bring your own questions and learn from each other.
