Evaluating GenAI to Support Clinical Documentation in Real World Settings

Wednesday, May 22 | 7:00 am - 8:00 am CT

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) documentation solutions have the power to improve clinical, operational, and financial outcomes for health systems, but they must be evaluated carefully and implemented responsibly. During this session, we’ll discuss how leading health systems are evaluating the AI medical documentation landscape and implementing solutions to transform their clinical workflows. We’ll also explore the key considerations and priorities that organizations like yours may have when assessing new GenAI solutions. Breakfast will be provided.

Building the Internal Business Case for Alert Management Solutions

Wednesday, May 22 | 12:15 pm –1:15 pm CT

Medication over-alerting and lack of patient-specific clinical decision support (CDS) can lead to alert fatigue, clinician burnout, and increased adverse drug events with resultant negative patient outcomes, financial, and reputational costs. Alert management solutions such as those provided by FDB (First Databank), can help proactively manage medication CDS, ameliorating many of the negative consequences of poorly targeted alerts.

While the benefits are relatively clear, building the internal case for adoption of an alert management solutions within a provider organization can be very challenging, due to competing initiatives, lack of alignment with central organizational goals, de-prioritization of alerting as an institutional priority, and challenges with establishing hard financial and clinical ROI.

In this focus group, Steve Miller, MD, MBE, a clinical informatician and pediatric gastroenterologist, will conduct a roundtable discussion on best practices for crafting of an internal business case to drive adoption of an alert management solution in the current era of constrained resources and competing priorities. Lunch will be provided.

Objectives

  • Explore central challenges and barriers to adoption of alert management solutions in provider organizations.
  • Build convincing arguments to clinical leadership for adoption of an alert management solution.
  • Explore opportunities for proof-of-concept studies to establish the value of patient-centered clinical decision support.

Host

  • Steve Miller, MD, MBE
Clinical Solutions Architect, FDB, Hearst HealthClinical Faculty, Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program, Kennedy Krieger Institute
Adjunct Assistant Professor, Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
