 Effective communication between surgeons and anesthesiologists is critical for high-quality, safe, and efficient perioperative patient care. Despite widespread implementation of surgical safety checklists and time-outs, ineffective team communication remains a leading cause of patient safety events in the operating room. To promote effective communication, we conducted a pilot trial of a "virtual huddle" between anesthesiologists and surgeons.

According to Digital Health Canada 2013 eSafety Guidelines, an estimated one-third of patient safety incidents following implementation of clinical information systems (CISs) are technology-related. An eSafety checklist was previously developed to improve CIS safety by providing a comprehensive listing of system-agnostic, evidence-based configuration recommendations.

The objective of this qualitative study is to gauge physician sentiment about an emergency department (ED) clinical decision support (CDS) system implemented in multiple adult EDs within a university hospital system. This CDS system focuses on predicting patients' likelihood of ED recidivism and/or adverse opioid-related events.
