Electronic health records (EHRs) have become widely adopted with increasing emphasis on improving care delivery. Improvements in surgery may be limited by specialty-specific issues that impact EHR usability and engagement. Accordingly, we examined EHR use and perceptions in urology, a diverse surgical specialty.

Access to credible and relevant health care information is an unmet need for the transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) community. This paper describes the community engagement methods and resulting community priorities as part of a codesign process for the development of a Transgender Health Information Resource (TGHIR) application.

The patient's voice, which we define as the words the patient uses found in notes and messages and other sources, and their preferences for care and its outcomes, is too small a part of the electronic health record (EHR). To address this shortcoming will require innovation, research, funding, perhaps architectural changes to commercial EHRs, and that we address barriers that have resulted in this state, including clinician burden and financial [...]

As a high patient-throughput clinic, the Royal Children's Hospital's multidisciplinary burns clinic's efficiency of clinic workflow and streamlined patient assessment is crucial. The clinic has been using a customized "burns assessment tool" (BAT) as part of its integrated electronic health record (EHR) since 2016.

Identifying children ready for transfer out of the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) is an area that may benefit from clinical decision support (CDS). We previously implemented a quality improvement (QI) initiative to accelerate the transfer evaluation of non-medically complex PICU patients with viral bronchiolitis receiving floor-appropriate respiratory support.

Patient and provider-facing screening tools for social determinants of health have been explored in a variety of contexts; however, effective screening and resource referral remain challenging, and less is known about how patients perceive chatbots as potential social needs screening tools. We investigated patient perceptions of a chatbot for social needs screening using three implementation outcome measures: acceptability, feasibility, and appropriateness.

This study aimed to (1) determine the impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) and the corresponding increase in use of telemedicine on volume, efficiency, and burden of electronic health record (EHR) usage by residents and fellows; and (2) to compare these metrics with those of attending physicians.

The health care field is experiencing widespread electronic health record (EHR) adoption. New medical professional liability (i.e., malpractice) cases will likely involve the review of data extracted from EHRs as well as EHR workflows, audit logs, and even the potential role of the EHR in causing harm.

The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic accelerated the adoption of telehealth technologies. Persistent disparities in telecommunication devices, internet connectivity, and digital literacy, however, undermine the potential for telemedicine to reduce barriers to health care access. Health systems may have a role in addressing these structural inequities. We describe the operationalization and feasibility of an internet-enabled tablet loaner program at a freestanding children's hospital.
