We sought to support public health surveillance and response to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) through rapid development and implementation of novel visualization applications for data amalgamated across sectors.

This study examined the perspectives on the use of data visualizations and identified key features seriously ill children, their parents, and clinicians prefer to see when visualizing symptom data obtained from mobile health technologies (an Apple Watch and smartphone symptom app).

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients are at risk for resource-intensive outcomes including mechanical ventilation (MV), renal replacement therapy (RRT), and readmission. Accurate outcome prognostication could facilitate hospital resource allocation. We develop and validate predictive models for each outcome using retrospective electronic health record data for COVID-19 patients treated between March 2 and May 6, 2020.

Facial masks are an essential personal protective measure to fight the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. However, the mask adoption rate in the United States is still less than optimal. This study aims to understand the beliefs held by individuals who oppose the use of facial masks, and the evidence that they use to support these beliefs, to inform the development of targeted public health communication strategies.

Public Health Announcements (PHAs) on television are a means of raising awareness about risk behaviors and chronic conditions. PHAs' scarce airtime puts stress on their target audience reach. We seek to help health campaigns select television shows for their PHAs about smoking, binge drinking, drug overdose, obesity, diabetes, STDs, and other conditions using available statistics.

Medication list discrepancies between outpatient clinics and pharmacies can lead to medication errors. Within the last decade, a new health information technology (IT), CancelRx, emerged to send a medication cancellation message from the clinic's electronic health record (EHR) to the outpatient pharmacy's software. The objective of this study was to measure the impact of CancelRx on reducing medication discrepancies between the EHR and pharmacy dispensing software.
