Medical Organizations Push for Adequate NIH Funding

AMIA, along with 75+ medical, scientific, and patient advocacy organizations, sent a letter to Congressional leadership on September 19, 2025, urging swift passage of appropriations funding NIH at $48.7 billion for fiscal year 2026. We expressed alarm over the administration's proposed 40% NIH budget cuts and disruptive policy changes, including operational disruptions and altered grant funding practices. The letter also requests Congress protect NIH's current 27-institute structure, avoid arbitrary caps on research costs, and prevent harmful forward-funding policies that disadvantage early-career researchers.
