America’s progress, from vaccines to space exploration, rests on rigorous, unbiased scientific inquiry. AMIA joined with the United Science Alliance, a wide coalition of scientific, academic, and public-health organizations, in sending a letter to the Office of Science and Technology Policy agreeing with the overarching goal of the Executive Order "Restoring the Gold Standard in Science" but emphasizes that the gold standard already exists through enduring scientific norms. These include empirical rigor, objectivity, transparency, peer review, reproducibility, self-correction, and diverse perspectives. These principles are embedded in scientific training, methodologies, and dissemination practices. We urge policymakers to strengthen, not undermine, these foundations and express willingness to engage constructively to uphold federally funded science’s integrity, utility, and public trust.
