Public Biography
Susan Matney, PhD, RNC-OB, FAAN, FACMI, FAMIA, FHL7, FHIMSS, is an informatics consultant and CEO of Wise Owl Originals, and has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Utah College of Nursing since 2001. Her career spans clinical nursing leadership, terminology engineering at Intermountain Healthcare and 3M Health Information Systems, and more than 25 years of standards development. She chaired the Regenstrief Clinical LOINC Nursing Subcommittee for 22 years and the SNOMED CT Nursing Special Interest Group, and served two elected terms on SNOMED International committees on nomination by the National Library of Medicine. She is a vocabulary facilitator for the HL7 Patient Care Work Group and senior consultant to the HL7 Gravity Project, and holds SNOMED CT Author Level II certification. She serves on the IMIA-NI Governance Advisory Panel. Her doctoral research produced a Theory of Wisdom-in-Action for Clinical Nursing. Her honors include the AMIA Virginia K. Saba Informatics Award, election to the American College of Medical Informatics, the LOINC Distinguished Contributor Award, and selection by the AMIA Nursing Informatics Working Group as a nursing informatics pioneer.
Historic ACMI Biography
Dr. Matney has championed the representation of front line nursing data and information in LOINC and SNOMED CT. Furthermore, she has worked to achieve syntactic and semantic interoperability within EHRs and other clinical data repositories to enable analytics and clinical decision-making among inter-professional teams to improve patient care.
