Public Biography
Susan Matney, PhD, RNC-OB, FAAN, FACMI is a Medical Informaticist with Intermountain Healthcare. Susan has more than 20 years of experience in Informatics and 30 years in nursing. In 2002 Susan took the terminology Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) to the American Nurses Association to be recognized as a terminology for use by nursing. She represents nursing at national/international conferences and organizations, including SNOMED-CT, Health Level 7 (HL7), LOINC, and the Federal Health Information Model Terminology (FHIM) team. She is chair of the LOINC nursing subcommittee and vocabulary facilitator for the HL7 CIMI work group. Susan is adjunct faculty at the University of Utah College of Nursing. She created a Theory of Wisdom-in-Action for Clinical Nursing as her dissertation.

Dr. Matney has championed the representation of front line nursing data and information in LOINC and SNOMED CT. Furthermore, she has worked to achieve syntactic and semantic interoperability within EHRs and other clinical data repositories to enable analytics and clinical decision-making among inter-professional teams to improve patient care.
