Public Biography
Shauna M. Overgaard, PhD, MHI, serves as Senior Director of AI Strategy and Frameworks at Mayo Clinic, Co-Director of the AI Validation and Stewardship Program, and Assistant Professor of Clinical Translational Science. She leads multidisciplinary initiatives spanning clinical informatics, translational science, health policy, and responsible artificial intelligence.

Her work centers on building the evidence, governance, and implementation capabilities needed to integrate AI technologies into safe, effective, equitable, and accountable clinical practice. This involves lifecycle evaluation, model documentation, sociotechnical risk assessment, simulation-based human factors testing, clinical validation, post-deployment monitoring, and designing decision pathways for scaling, refining, safeguarding, or retiring AI solutions.

Nationally, Dr. Overgaard co-chaired the National Academy of Medicine AI Code of Conduct Health Systems and Payers Working Group, served on the Coalition for Health AI Steering Committee, and co-chaired its Transparency Working Group. Her AMIA involvement includes the Public Policy Committee, Industry Partnership Council, AI Evaluation Showcase, and previous leadership of the Student Working Group. She is Associate Editor of JAMIA Open and serves on the Editorial Board of npj Health Systems. Her scholarship and leadership focus on strengthening trust, scientific rigor, and measurable value for patients and health systems throughout the AI lifecycle.
