Public Biography
Sharon E. Davis is a biomedical informatician with additional background in public health and statistics. Her current research emphasizes clinical predictive analytics, post-marketing surveillance, algorithmic vigilance, and responsible stewardship of artificial intelligence in healthcare. She is particularly interested in addressing the practical challenges of applied learning prediction systems, focusing on methods supporting the implementation of reliable, impactful, and sustainable clinical AI models. She has developed a suite of methods for data-driven model monitoring and updating, laying the groundwork for algorithmic vigilance systems promoting fairness and utility of models underlying tools for decision support and population management. Components of this work received Honorable Mention in the 2020 AMIA Doctoral Dissertation Award and AMIA's Martin Epstein Award from the 2019 Student Paper Competition. The arc of Dr. Davis’ career and her current focus on methods promoting practical clinical prediction are guided by a commitment to leveraging health and data sciences to advance tools that empower individuals, foster patient safety, promote healthy communities, and reduce health inequities.
