Dr. Samantha Stonbraker is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Colorado College of Nursing and holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Her career is distinguished by a commitment to using informatics to advance health equity, particularly among marginalized populations in the United States and Latin America. With a PhD in Nursing and postdoctoral training in informatics from Columbia University, Dr. Stonbraker bridges clinical insight and digital innovation to improve communication, health literacy, and self-management for people living with HIV and other chronic conditions.

Her research portfolio includes several federally funded studies focused on the design, implementation, and evaluation of digital health tools, including the development of Info Viz for Health®, a SMART on FHIR application that delivers HIV-related infographics at the point of care to enhance clinician-patient communication. Dr. Stonbraker’s projects consistently emphasize user-centered design, participatory methods, and interoperability within electronic health records.

She has made significant contributions to education and mentorship in informatics, teaching graduate-level courses in human-computer interaction and scientific diversity, and advising dozens of trainees and junior faculty across nursing, public health, and medicine. Her work has been widely disseminated through national conferences, peer-reviewed journals, and invited talks, including presentations for AMIA, HIMSS, and the NIH. She currently serves as the Co-Chair of NIWG’s Digital Communication Committee and is looking forward to expanding her involvement in NIWG and as such is delighted to be running for next year's Chair-Elect position.
