Ping Zhang, PhD, FAMIA, FIAHSI

Ping Zhang is a Full Professor at The Ohio State University (OSU), with joint appointments at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI). He leads the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIMed) Lab. He serves as Chief of the Division of Artificial Intelligence in Digital Health (AIDH) at OSU and Director of the AIDH Core at the OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC). His research focuses on machine learning, data mining, and their applications to foundation models (e.g., large language models, large vision models, large multimodal models, AI agents), trustworthy AI (e.g., explainability, robustness, domain generalization, causal inference, uncertainty quantification, human-AI collaboration), computational medicine (e.g., predictive modeling, medical imaging, clinical NLP, real-world evidence, drug discovery & development). He has received NSF CAREER award in 2022 and IBM master inventor award in 2018. His research has contributed to multiple AI products, including Watson for Drug Discovery, and Watson for Patient Safety. He is an elected Fellow of American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and International Academy of Health Sciences and Informatics (IAHSI), a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a Distinguished Speaker of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
