The Federated Trusted Research Environment for health data and Sovereign AI
About Lifebit
Lifebit gives health systems, academic medical centers, governments, biobanks, and pharma a secure way to analyze sensitive health data without moving it. Our Federated Trusted Research Environment brings the analysis to the data: researchers work inside a governed environment, every output is checked before it leaves, and the data never leaves the source.
Founded in 2017, Lifebit powers national-scale research programs, including the Genomics England Research Environment, and supports research teams across the US, UK, Europe, and Asia.
What we help informatics teams do
- Run federated analysis across hospitals and research sites, so data stays under each institution’s control.
- Harmonize EHR and clinical data to common models such as OMOP and FHIR, ready for research and AI.
- Govern every export with an automated Airlock that checks results before they leave the environment.
- Build and run AI Scientist agents inside the Trusted Research Environment, on governed data.
Who we work with
Academic medical centers, health systems, national health programs, biobanks, research consortia, and pharmaceutical companies, including Genomics England, CanPath (the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow’s Health), and Boehringer Ingelheim.
Published research on Lifebit
Clinical potential of whole-genome data linked to mortality statistics in patients with breast cancer in the UK (The Lancet Oncology, 2025), run in the Genomics England Research Environment.
Automated GenePy gene-burden computation via a reproducible Nextflow workflow integrated with the Genomics England (GEL) Lifebit platform (NAR Genomics and Bioinformatics, 2026): about 24,000 genes scored for 78,000 participants.
