Prof. Kimura made hospital information system data helpful not only to patients and healthcare staff, but also to healthy people with advocacy through drug safety information detection in large-scale population. This was accomplished through 1) his lifelong devotion to standardization, which resulted in 732 HIS exportable data in HL7 format, and his high speed time-series search, which made drug safety information detection from CPOE data possible. This is accomplished by hierarchical information representation, which he proposed in 1987; 2) his long years of service as APAMI and IMIA board raised awareness of Asia-Pacific medical informatics activities to the world, and at the same time, he made HL7, DICOM, IHE and ISO/TC 215 encounter the eastern world, to make them real international standards.
