Public Biography
Jungwei Wilfred (Fred) Fan, Ph.D. has extensive experience in biomedical informatics across both academia and industry. He is affiliated with the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Informatics and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, Mayo Clinic. He started his career in natural language processing (NLP) and over the past decade has expanded his approaches to leveraging not only texts but structured electronic health records, scientific literature, and consumer-generated health data. For specific applied areas, he currently focuses on: 1) Applying informatics methods for understanding the biology and care for multimorbidity; 2) Using real-world data to investigate medical practice variation and care disruption. Dr. Fan received his Ph.D. in biomedical informatics from Columbia University. He has mentored several undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees.
