Public Biography
Frances Hsu is a National Library of Medicine pre-doctoral fellow in Health and Clinical Informatics at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). She received a BS in Biochemistry & Cell Biology and MS in Bioscience and Health Policy from Rice University. She has an extensive and diverse research background, including cancer cell division research at MD Anderson Cancer Center, health policy research with the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), and evidence synthesis with PCORI and the Pacific Northwest Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC). Her interest in responsible use of electronic health records (EHR) data for patient-centered outcomes research, precision medicine, and creation of learning health system motivated her to pursue clinical informatics. Through her research, she aims to identify sources of bias and data quality issue in EHR data to inform real-world evidence generation. Furthermore, she is interested in applying causal inference to mitigate biases while improving inference from real-world data that will accelerate observational study and improve patient outcome.
