Dr. Horvitz has made significant contributions to probabilistic and decision-theoretic reasoning in bioinformatics and in AI more broadly, including advances in flexible approximation methods and their uses in time-critical reasoning, models of bounded rationality, methods that support human-computer collaboration, and innovations in machine learning to build decision support systems and to develop insights from large datasets.
