Albers has created a subfield of nonlinear dynamical systems to accommodate sparse, inaccurate data found in medicine and made discoveries in glucose physiology and management, female endocrinology, lung injury, and clinical phenotyping. He is the most prominent bridge between biomedical informatics and mathematical physics, publishing in top journals in both.
