Dr. Tao is an internationally recognized scientist in Medical Informatics, specializing in the fields of ontologies and terminologies. She has published more than 100 articles and is currently the principal investigator for three NIH funded projects. She is a recipient of the prestigious PECASE award named by President Obama. Dr. Tao has contributed substantially to the field of biomedical informatics. Her research has focused on developing ontology and semantic technologies for biomedical knowledge representation, data normalization, natural language processing, and semantic reasoning. Her research findings have been successfully applied by big research centers and many research projects. She has achieved a very productive record by publishing more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. She has been invited to publish 10 editorials. Her articles have been cited in over 1,000 publications by other researchers from 40 countries. Furthermore, she has mentored more than 30 Biomedical Informatics trainees.
