Longhurstís leadership as CMIO resulted in the publication of the first association between CPOE and a decrease in mortality. He subsequently co-authored a NEJM article describing the use of aggregate EMR data to make a real-time patient care decision. He is the founding program director of the Stanford Clinical Informatics fellowship.
