Public Biography
Dr. Brittany Chao is a Senior Health Science Policy Analyst at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), where she spearheads NLM’s policy efforts in areas including artificial intelligence, public access, and genomic data sharing.

Dr. Chao previously served as the Scientific Special Assistant to Dr. Lawrence Tabak, former National Institutes of Health (NIH) Principal Deputy Director. In that role, she played a crucial role advancing NIH’s scientific, policy, and legislative priorities. She led the development of key programs including the Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) program and the Advancing Health Research through Multimodal AI initiative.

Prior to this role, she served as a Presidential Management Fellow at the National Cancer Institute, where she advanced projects such as the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative.

Prior to her time at the NIH, Dr. Chao received her D.Phil in Biomedical Sciences (Immunology) from the University of Oxford and her M.Phil in Biological Sciences (Pathology) from the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar.
