AMIA's Industry Partnership Council (IPC) is the home for leading informatics organizations to connect with each other and to collaborate on shared interests. Active participants in the IPC play a critical part in advancing the role of industry within AMIA as well as providing valuable insight and innovation for the informatics community. The IPC welcomes two liaisons from each of AMIA’s Corporate Partner and Corporate Member organizations.
The IPC provides an ethical and objective environment within which AMIA Corporate Partners and Corporate Members can:
- Identify shared visions and address common issues of mutual interest
- Suggest and develop informative and engaging programs for the AMIA community
- Play a vital role in advocacy and advancing public policy
- Support innovation and advances in informatics training, education, research, and practice
- Access the intellectual resources of other IPC members in a collaborative, non-competitive environment
- Strengthen AMIA’s strategic plan

Latest Developments in AI – An Industry Perspective

The latest developments in artificial intelligence, such as generative AI and large language models, create both opportunities and risks in the healthcare industry. On this panel, members of AMIA’s Industry Partnership Council will provide an industry perspective on novel use cases and safety concerns regarding the use of AI. Possible use cases include evidence synthesis, protocol writing, literature review, document search, phenotype standardization, protein sequence generation, EHR data summarization, management of EHR inboxes, physician-patient communication, physician documentation, and other workflow efficiencies. However, organizations using AI in healthcare need systems in place to ensure the safe, ethical, and effective use of these new technologies. These systems may include legal and regulatory guidance, clinician training and clear AI documentation. The panel will also discuss possible unintended consequences of AI, such as physician efficiency gains leading to higher patient volume rather than more time with each patient.
