Watch an expert-led panel discussion examining the advantages of electronic case reporting (eCR) and eCR Now FHIR-based application. Presenters reviewed eCR to understand how it enabled informed public health surveillance and planning and played a role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Presenters also discussed the implementation of a FHIR app and how it provides a more innovative and sustainable approach to eCR. Additionally, they explore the next evolution of eCR and potential future applications of the technology.

Laura A. Conn strategically leads innovative health information and data solutions that impact public health. She has led eCR activities, including rapidly scaling up eCR for COVID-19 and establishing a model for other reportable health conditions.
John W. Loonsk, MD, FACMI is Consulting Chief Medical Informatics Officer and electronic case reporting lead for the Association of Public Health Laboratories. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a fellow in the American College of Medical Informatics. He received his medical training at the State University of New York at Buffalo after graduating from the Johns Hopkins University.
Hans Buitendijk is a senior executive at Cerner with more than 35 years experience developing and consulting on HIT solutions. Hans currently serves as the director responsible for interoperability strategy and is focused on establishing and propagating industry standards to enable interoperability across the diverse systems prevalent in health IT.
He represents Cerner across the industry to advance interoperability, such as HL7, Argonaut, Da Vinci, HELIOS, EHRA, CARIN Alliance, CommonWell Health Alliance, Carequality and the Sequoia Project.
Stephen Hill is a senior product manager in interoperability within Cerner. His primary focus is creating, commenting, and understanding implementation guides that complement existing client requirements to begin, maintain, and advance the development of our products. Stephen represents Cerner across the industry in AIRA, Digital Bridge, EHRA, HIMSS IIP and HELIOS.
