AMIA Clinical Informatics Fellows’ Retreat at CIC 2019

The AMIA Clinical Informatics Fellows’ (ACIF) Retreat has been a regularly scheduled event since the initiation of clinical informatics fellowships. The concept of retreats for informatics fellows originated in the pathology informatics fellowship community in the years prior to the creation of ACGME-accredited fellowships in clinical informatics.

The ACIF retreat brings fellows together from ACGME-accredited clinical informatics fellowship programs across the United States. The goals of the ACIF retreat are to:

1. Provide practice-based exercises in various aspects of clinical informatics and physician leadership for clinical informatics fellows to work through individually and in small groups
2. Expose fellows to scenarios that they may not have the opportunity to experience personally during their fellowship
3. Facilitate networking for fellows across clinical informatics training programs

The Clinical Informatics Fellows’ retreats have been led by Dr. Bruce Levy, program director for the Geisinger Clinical Informatics Fellowship, since their inception in association with the 2016 AMIA Annual Symposium. Rotating faculty from multiple different clinical informatics fellowship programs have contributed to various retreats. In 2018 the ACIF retreat became associated with AMIA’s Clinical Informatics Conference as its permanent home. 

The specific topics and scenarios to be presented at the 2019 retreat have not yet been determined, but they are based on the clinical informatics curriculum partially developed by AMIA and described in the ACGME program requirements for clinical informatics.

Registration to the AMIA 2019 Clinical Informatics Conference is required to attend this retreat.
