Nursing Informatics Innovators: Kathleen A. McCormick

Dr. McCormick is Senior Principal Scientist/Vice President, SAIC-Frederick in Rockville, Md. She is a senior practitioner, researcher, and policy executive in nursing, health informatics, bioinformatics, cardiopulmonary physiology, and gerontology. She has co-authored 5 editions of Essentials of Nursing Informatics published by McGraw-Hill, New York. She has also published over 100 peer reviewed journal articles. Kathleen has a demonstrated personal dedication to achieving major advancements in nursing and healthcare informatics. Her first role in NI was as a nursing informatics scientist and clinical trial researcher within the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center, and the National Institute on Aging. She was first involved in 1981 with a Computers in Nursing course sponsored by NIH and spoke at the early 1980s NIH national conference. She is a Fellow in the College of Medical Informatics, American Academy of Nursing, The Gerontology Society of America, and HIMSS. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine.
