The University of Florida’s Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Informatics, which is offered on UF’s campus, is a 15-credit program that gives students the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective participant in setting and executing organizational strategies for health care and biomedical information and information systems.
Individuals with skills in biomedical informatics are in short supply, but in high demand. Leaders of academic homes for biomedical informatics cannot recruit sufficient numbers and quality of faculty. Health care organizations cannot find and hire enough professionals with biomedical informatics skills to implement electronic health records, personal health records, and other clinical information systems. The same is true for government organizations and private payers. Researchers require both improved information management skills as well as biomedical informatics specialists with whom to collaborate.
