The Certification of Professional Achievement Program in Health Information Technology (HIT) is a nine-month, online, graduate program of four, three-point courses (two in the fall, two in the spring) offered through the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus. Instruction occurs once a month on a Friday between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and is supplemented by weekly individual and team assignments. Virginia Lorenzi, national expert in healthcare interoperability, HL7, and HIT standards, directs the program. Training has broad applicability to a number of potential careers and requires a bachelor’s degree.
