1. Request Eligibility Review

The first step towards AHIC is to request an eligibility review.

  • The eligibility review requires you to upload a current CV or resume in PDF.
  • You will also provide information about your qualifying health informatics experience, including job title, organization, supervisor, supervisor’s email, start and end dates, % time spent dedicated to health informatics tasks, job description, types of activities performed, and how the role aligns with the domains and knowledge statements of the AHIC Exam Outline.
  • You will be notified of your eligibility within 30 business days of submitting your eligibility review request.

2. Complete Exam Application

When your eligibility has been confirmed, you can then complete the AHIC Exam Application.

  • The AHIC Exam Application requires you to upload a transcript (official or unofficial, in PDF) for the degree you are using to qualify for AHIC.
  • You will also provide information to support exam administration and program management.
  • The application includes an agreement to follow AMIA’s Code of Ethics, confirmation that you have read key policies, and an attestation to the accuracy of your information.
  • Please note that AMIA audits at least 10% of all AHIC applications. Applicants randomly selected for audit will be asked to provide additional documentation in support of the application. This documentation may include an official transcript for the qualifying degree, attestations to work experience from supervisors, and/or other clarifying information.

3. Pay Exam Fee

When staff have verified that your Exam Application is complete, you will receive a link to pay the exam fee.

  • Exam fees are non-refundable under any circumstances. Please review the AHIC Certification Guide to ensure that you understand the requirements for becoming and remaining certified.
  • Following payment, you will receive an email with information on how to schedule your exam. There is a 6-month window for scheduling your exam.
