The Patricia Flatley Brennan Team Science Award recognizes outstanding contributions to interdisciplinary biomedical and health informatics research and the application of technology that advance  personal and public health, healthcare, or biomedical science. Inspired by Dr. Brennan’s visionary leadership in informatics, nursing, engineering, and public service, this award honors a team of scientists who exemplify the principles of collaborative, and data-enabled science.

Eligibility

  • Open to teams whose work demonstrates significant contributions that span technology, research, health policy, and/or education within biomedical and health informatics.
  • Teams may be composed of individuals at any career stage.
  • The team leader(s) must hold an active AMIA membership and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the organization. Other team members are encouraged to hold but are not required to be AMIA members.
  • Nominations must clearly identify all team members, including their roles and contributions.

Criteria

Recognizes a specific, high-impact contribution or achievement in biomedical and health informatics, rather than general career accomplishments.

Evidence of the team leaders’ ability to build, lead, and sustain a collaborative team. The team leader(s) must be identified, though they do not need to be the nominator.

Clear description of how the team was created and structured recognizing that teams often evolve organically over time.  Describe the initial core, how additional members (experts, students, investigators, etc.) were engaged, and how their participation both advanced the project.  Identify the roles and contributions of all members to demonstrate how the team’s collaboration and functionality enabled the contribution.

The extent to which the team’s contribution has been disseminated, adopted, and had measurable impact on the field.  Evidence that the collaboration itself advanced more effective team science in biomedical and health informatics.

Note: The team leader(s) (who must be an AMIA member) receives the award on behalf of the team.  All team members receive recognition through the award citation, program, and website.
