The Award for Leadership in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the field of medical informatics. The award recognizes individual leadership in areas including outreach, mentorship, education, workforce, policy or program development. This award honors an individual who works to grow participation and engagement in the informatics field through expanding outreach, access and inclusivity.
Eligibility
- Nominees must have demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the field of informatics.
- Eligibility or selection for the award is inclusive, and is not dependent on the candidate’s race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, or other identity criteria.
- Nominee may be an individual at any career stage.
- The individual must hold an active AMIA membership and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the organization.
- Nominations must clearly identify the individual and, if applicable, the roles and contributions of additional team members.
Criteria
- Create an Inclusive Environment: Recognizes a specific, demonstrable contribution creating or sustaining inclusivity in academic or professional settings to engage students or professionals in the field.
- Lead Initiatives Promoting Diversity: Evidence of the individual’s leadership in defining, building and promoting diversity in informatics education or workforce development.
- Advocate for Outreach and Services: Clear demonstration of advocacy for outreach impacting underrepresented groups or communities in the field.
- Implement: Develop, sustain or improve impactful policies or programs that advance equity.
- Mentor and Support: Investment in mentoring efforts supporting engagement of high school or collegiate students, early- and mid-career professionals in informatics careers or career development.
- Note: The nominee (who must be an AMIA member) receives the award.
