Nomination Instructions

  • Review the nominating and eligibility requirements for the award to assure the nominee qualifies.
  • Nominators must submit a personalized letter of recommendation that clearly and compellingly outlines the nominee’s key contributions to the field in alignment with the specific criteria for the award. Strong letters will:
    • Clearly articulate the nominee’s role and impact
    • Highlight specific achievements, innovations, excellence or leadership roles
    • Describe the significance and lasting influence of the nominee’s contribution
    • Provide context for the nominee’s work within the broader informatics community (e.g. national influence, interdisciplinary collaboration)
    • Include concrete examples that align with the award’s purpose
    • Reflect the distinctiveness of the nominee among their peers
    • Avoid general praise or restatements of the CV. Letters should offer insight that cannot be gleaned from biographical data alone.
  • All nomination letters should be submitted annually as a single PDF file by a date to be determined in mid-July.
  • When multiple nominators are involved, please submit a single nomination letter co-signed by all nominators. The Nomination letter may include up to five co-signatories.  Although large “petition”-type nominations utilizing multiple letters each with the maximum number of co-signatories are not permitted, multiple nomination letters are acceptable when submitted independently by nominators who do not know each other or have not coordinated their efforts. The number of letters received has no influence on the committee's decision.
  • Individuals may endorse only one nominee per award. Serving as a co-signer on multiple nominations for the same award is not permitted.
  • Complete a new online nomination form for each candidate in the application software.
  • For the AMIA New Investigator Award, nominators should submit a personalized letter of recommendation describing the nominee's early informatics contributions and curriculum vitae in PDF file format.  The nominator(s) should include the first publication in a journal including the full title and PubMed URL demonstrating eligibility with a date less than 10 years from the year of the nomination.
