AMIA is pleased to offer open access to the TrendBurden: Pulse Survey on Excessive Documentation Burden for Health Professionals© data for your academic and clinical research.

The TrendBurden dataset, maintained by the AMIA 25x5 Task Force, includes valuable insights into the documentation burden experienced by healthcare workers documenting patient care within the electronic health record.

Organizations may utilize the TrendBurden: Pulse Survey on Excessive Documentation for Health Professionals© by administering the survey within their organization before and after burden reduction interventions as an outcome measurement and publication of survey findings specific to their establishment. A sample IRB protocol is also available for organizations to customize and submit to their organization’s IRB.

AMIA Health System Council members may request a private link to administer the TrendBurden: Survey on Excess Documentation Burden for Health Professional© Member organizations utilizing the private link will receive the raw data collected from their private link after the survey period closes for their own data analysis, dissemination, and publication of survey findings specific to their establishment. The aggregated data will be included in the survey metadata and utilized by the 25x5 Task Force for tracking trends over time. Please email Katy Sidwell to request a private link.

The AMIA 25x5 Task Force grants a complimentary license for the utilization of the TrendBurden: Pulse Survey on Excessive Documentation for Health Professionals© (“Survey”). There are no further permissions necessary. Institutions administering the Survey directly using the data dictionary are obligated to adhere to the subsequent terms and conditions of use:

Organizations undertaking the administration of the Survey agree to:

  • share aggregated data with AMIA for the purpose of analyzing metadata trends over time; and
  • provide proper attribution to the AMIA 25x5 Task Force.

Institutions retain the right to disseminate and publish survey findings specific to their establishment.
