Public Biography
Jane L. Snowdon, PhD, FAMIA, is an Innovation Engagement Leader and a member of the internal venture capital team within IBM Corporate Technical Strategy. She develops the pipeline, evaluates, and leads proof-of-concepts to create strategic business value and accelerate innovation in collaboration with customers and partners. She is a member of the IBM Industry Academy. Previously, she served as Deputy Chief Science Officer, Center for AI, Research and Evaluation (CARE), at IBM Watson Health. A results-driven leader, technologist, researcher, and consultant, Jane has strategic planning and execution, health informatics, security, cloud computing, enterprise architecture, and marketing skills in the healthcare, life sciences, and government industries. She was responsible for leading Science Operations to advance data and clinical evidence studies and building a study portfolio for Watson Health solutions. Dr. Snowdon served on the AMIA 2021 Annual Symposium SPC and served as a member of the IPC. Dr. Snowdon received the 2019 Achievement in Industry Award from the American Public Health Association's (APHA) Applied Public Health Statistics (APHS) section for her outstanding contributions to statistics and public health and the 2020 Health Tech Hero Award from IBM Watson Health. Prior to Watson Health, Jane was Chief Innovation Officer, IBM U. S. Federal Government and Director of IBM's Federal Cloud Innovation Center in Washington DC. She co-chaired the Cyber Security Education and Workforce Development Working Group with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Jane was a Senior Manager in the Department of Strategy and Worldwide Technical Operations at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. She was responsible for jointly leading the direction of IBM's overall Research strategy across twelve global labs and the 2013 Global Technology Outlook. Jane received her Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a M.S. degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a B.S. degree with distinction in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. She was inducted into the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering in 2006, the Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni at Georgia Tech in 2008, and Outstanding Engineering Alumni at Penn State in 2022. She is a Senior Member of the IIE and IEEE, and a Member of AMIA, APHA, CASE, INFORMS, NYAS, Sigma Xi, SWE, and WITI. Jane is a past co-chair for the Watson Womenís Network (WWN) and past WWN representative to the Watson Diversity Council.
